Frequently Asked Questions about Foam Crown Molding
We enjoy teaching people about our products. Here are our most frequently asked questions and our responses!
Apply 2-3 coats of water based paint with primer. You can use a spray cup gun, spray airless gun, or an everyday paint brush to paint foam crown moldings.
*Never use oil based enamels or lacquers as damage to the molding may occur.
Apply a zigzag bead of painters caulk to the back of the molding. We find it easier to install all your corners first throughout the room. (Of course, this step is optional!)
Run your straight sections in between the corners.
Measure the remaining open areas and cut to fit.
Fill in your vertical seams with sandable spackle, if needed.
Caulk your top and bottom horizontal seams, if needed.

Yes! All you will need to do is to scrape the popcorn texture off with a paint scraper.
Use a string and a few cork board push pins for a guiding line on how far to scrape out form the wall. Hold a pizza pan or paint pan under where you are scraping to catch the droppings.
You can use a good quality Latex Painters Caulk or Lochtite Power Grab foamboard adhesive. After you have applied the glue, lightly press your molding to the wall and hold for 10-15 seconds. (Make sure the molding has good contact with the wall.) The glue typically dries in 90 minutes. So if you come down from your ladder and look up at the molding and see a section out of place, you have that much time to go back up the ladder and adjust accordingly.
*DO NOT USE Liquid Nails as they are high in VOC’s and Solvents which could possibly damage the foam molding.
You only need to apply a pencil sized zig zag bead across the back of the molding to apply to the wall.

Yes, our moldings can be used in the bathroom and shower area. Good rule of thumb, the day that you install the molding don’t take any showers that night, that way the glue can dry and settle.
The molding we would recommend for a bathroom would be one of our 3.5″ Flat Back designs.
To our knowledge the only way that foam molding would discolor would be if a cheap paint is used on it. The foam will never deteriorate. However, the use of oil based enamels or lacquers can damage foam crown molding.

You can also coat our product with Stucco or Efis to hardened and protect the face of the molding from things such as hail or tree branches.
